Patriots expected to hire former wide receiver to coaching staff
Former NFL receiver Tiquan Underwood is close to rejoining the Patriots this season. This time, he is expected to be joining the coaching staff as Jerod Mayo’s assistant receivers coach.
According to Albert Breer, the team is in the process of hiring Underwood - who played one season (2011) with the Patriots. He is known for being released by the Patriots the day before Super Bowl against the Giants. Underwood caught three passes for 30 yards in six games that season.
The 36-year-old recently was with the University of Pittsburgh as their receivers coach and passing game coordinator.
The former seventh-rounder of the Jagaurs in 2009 transitioned from being a player to a coach in 2018. He served as receivers coach at Lafayette in 2018, before moving into offensive quality control role with the Dolphins in 2019. Underwood returned to his alma-mater Rutgers in 2020, where he coached receivers for two seasons. The former Patriots receiver has been with Pitts since 2022.
Troy Brown served as the team’s receivers coach last season. It’s currently not known if he will be joining Mayo’s staff for the coming season.
