Thornton was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 1 after breaking his collarbone during the preseason. The second-round wide receiver from Baylor will be a welcome addition to the Patriots offense.
Thornton played 47 games with Baylor, starting 33 of them. Last season, he caught 62 receptions for 948 yards and scored 10 touchdowns.
The speedy receiver will be a weapon for the Patriots now he is finally healthy. However, Thornton will have to wait to play with Mac Jones. Rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe is expected to start against the Lions at home. Jones is still dealing with his injured high ankle sprain.
