Oakland A’s sign former WooSox reliever (report)
Durbin Feltman reportedly finds a new home in the American League West
The Oakland Athletics have signed former Red Sox minor league pitcher Durbin Feltman, according to Baseball America.
The Red Sox released Feltman back on April 11, as first reported by Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
The 26-year-old was drafted by the Red Sox with the 100th overall pick in the 2018 draft, the righty signed for $559,600. There was speculation that he could be a fast riser within the system following his time TCU.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, Feltman spent his entire professional career in the Red Sox farm system.
Feltman spent the all of last season at Triple-A Worcester, where he allowed 41 earned runs in 48 ⅓ innings and pitched to a 7.63 ERA.
This season, he had made two appearances for the WooSox. Ultimately he was a roster casualty as the WooSox were facing a roster crunch with injured players Wilyer Abreu and Taylor Broadway set to comeback. Plus the WooSox were expecting Kutter Crawford back after he was optioned prior to the Rays series. With the injury to Zack Kelly, Crawford remained with Boston.
The move was made due to performance, “the team saw Feltman as someone at the bottom of their Triple-A roster”, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
