Everyone knew when Niko Kavadas was selected by the Boston Red Sox from Notre Dame in the 11th round, 316 pick overall that he would bring some pop in his bat along the way. The power stroking lefty a quickly surfaced into a deep thread when he steps into the batters box.
Kavadas has done nothing but impress in his first full season in Low-A with the Salem Red Sox.
Kavadas, who is quickly jumping up the Beyond the Monster rankings, is listed in my Top 25 overall, has hit 10 home runs and drive in 39 along the way.
In June, he has six bombs, three of which have come against Delmarva in the six-game series. The other three homers in June have come against Columbia, twice, and Charleston.
During Friday nights game against Delmarva, Kavadas went one-for-three with a run scored, a home run, it was a two-run blast and then drove in another on a RBI sac-fly. This is the first time this season that Kavadas has back-to-back games with home runs.
Kavadas has the raw power that you want in a prospect, especially one that plays first base. His big frame allows him to turn on balls quickly and give the ball some liftoff into the jet stream that produces his home runs. He hits the ball extremely hard.
Kavadas and Salem look to improve to 32-30 on Saturday afternoon against Delmarva. The six-game series will end on Sunday afternoon. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
