Nick Yorke shakes off road slump with 4-hit game
After a road series in Binghampton where Nick Yorke went just 3-24, he regained his feel at the plate. In Tuesday’s series opener against the Reading Fightin Phils, Yorke outdid his hit total from the previous week, going 4-4 with a home run.
Starting out the night with a single to right field, Yorke continued to portray his elite bat to ball skills. His ability to spray the ball all over the field was once again on display with another single the same way, this time in the 4th inning.
Come the 6th inning, Yorke seemed to have had enough with shooting the ball the other way. On a 3-1 fastball he decided to pull the hands in and deposit the ball over the wall in left-center. His 9th homer of the season, Yorke once again crushed the ball to the pullside, where naturally he has the most power.
Finishing off his night, he shoots a ball to the outfield that he’s able to scoot over to second base on. So after one game, he outdid his entire previous week. Ballplayers of all levels and organizations will probably tell you, there’s no place like home. It doesn’t stand out too much that Yorke has hit super well at home, but maybe his road-home splits will be something to watch going forward.
Tonight Yorke and the Sea Dogs will look to continue their series against the Fightin Phils. After a 7-2 loss, hopefully Yorke’s hitting will become contagious to the rest of the lineup.
