Nick Robertson tosses scoreless inning in return to the majors
The Red Sox recalled minor league right-hander pitcher Nick Robertson prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles.
In a flurry of roster moves, Robertson was added after James Paxton was placed on the 15-day injured list and Joe Jacques was optioned to Triple-A Worcester.
Robertson tossed a scoreless ninth inning in the 7-3 win over the Orioles. He threw 10 pitches while striking out one batter.
The 25-year-old has been hit hard when he’s pitched in the majors between his time with both the Dodgers and Red Sox.
In 12 games, he is 0-1 with a 6.46 ERA, 17 strikeouts, 1.76 WHIP over 15 1/3 innings. Robertson owns a 9.00 ERA while pitching for the Red Sox.
The 6-foot-6 hurler came over from the Dodgers along with right-handed reliever Justin Hagenman for Kiké Hernández.
Robertson was ranked as the Dodgers No. 25 prospect by Baseball America at the time of the trade. was drafted by the Dodgers in the seventh-round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut this season after dominating in Triple-A.
“I am excited to get both of them,” said Chaim Bloom on the TC & Company Podcast back in July. “You never have enough pitching, these guys being in the upper levels, Nick (Robertson) getting a taste of the big leagues, were excited to what they can bring to the table.”
Boston needed a fresh arm in the bullpen heading into Sunday. Robertson’s scoreless frame will help keep him around for the time being. Other roster moves could be made prior to the start of the Yankees series on Monday.
