Nick Northcut has been one consistent positive for the Red Sox farm this year. He has made strides in earning his first potential call-up this year from High-A Greenville to Double-A Portland.
Northcut, 23, was selected by the Red Sox in the 2018 MLB Draft with the clubs 11th round selection, pick number 340.
Northcut made his Sox debut the same year as he was drafted with the GCL club where he spent 41 games averaging .232 with a home run and 20 RBIs before being promoted to Lowell where he appeared in six games and averaged .167 over 24 at-bats.
In 2019, Northcut spent the entire season in the New York-Penn League with the Spinners where he appeared in 54 games and hit just one home run with 22 RBIs and slashed .211/.287/.299.
After having a COVID layoff year in 2020, it seemed as if Northcut went out and got stronger because in 2021 with the Salem Red Sox he blasted 17 long balls with 77 RBIs with 32 double-baggers along the way.
He also collected a total of 177 bases over 90 hits the Salem squad in 2021.
And thus far in 2022, Northcut has overly-doubled his home run total from last year with 26 on the year with 57 RBIs. He also has a slash line of .229/.292/.546 over 280 at-bats with 64 hits.
His 26 homers on the year is the most he’s had in three years prior with (20). He not only leads the Red Sox minors with 26 homers, but also leads the big club as well if he was on their roster. The closest big leaguer to his home run total is Rafael Devers with (20).
