Nick Folk kicks his 100th career Patriots field goal in only Special Teams highlight in loss to the Vikings
The Patriots let a winnable game slip away on Thanksgiving against the Vikings. New England struggled with their special teams play in the game, including giving up a 97 yard kick return for a touchdown by Kene Nwangwu.
Despite the score and overall bad special teams play, the only highlights on that side of the ball for the Patriots was by kicker Nick Folk.
The Patriots kicker secured four field goals including his 100th career field goal with the team.
Folk connected from 23, 25, 34 and 46 yards and also went 2-for-2 on extra points. The 38-year-old has been one of the team’s most consistent players all season.
Folk becomes the fifth Patriots kicker to reach 100 field goals joining Stephen Gostkowski 374, Adam Vinateri 263 and Gino Cappelletti 176 and John Smith 128.
Ultimately, kick return for a score swung the momentum in the game into the hands of Minnesota. “Really, that’s the difference in the game,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. “That’s seven points that end up being bonus points in the game.”
Folk and the Patriots will meet the Buffalo Bills for the first time this season next week from Foxboro. With the loss to the Vikings, the matchup against the Bills is a must win, if the Patriots have aspirations for the playoffs.
