NFL Free Agency Notebook: Legal tampering underway, Raiders make big splash, Titans add new running back, Bills wide receiver to Jags
The Raiders opened NFL free agency making a seismic move adding defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.
The former Dolphins star has agreed to a reported four-year, $110 million deal with $84.75 million in guarantees, per his agent David Mulugheta.
Wilkins spent five seasons in Miami after being drafted 13th overall in 2019. He was unable to come to terms on a long-term deal to remain with the Dolphins, resulting in him hitting the open market.
The Raiders newest defensive weapon will join Maxx Crosby upfront. He will bring a career-high nine sacks, which was fourth in the league for defensive tackles, trailing only Bradley Chubb and Zach Sieler. Overall, Wilkins had 355 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, an interception and two defensive touchdowns with the Dolphins.
Titans add former Cowboys running back Tony Pollard
There’s a major change happening in the backfield in Tennessee.
The Titans are adding former Cowboys running back Tony Pollard on a three-year, $24 million deal, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Adding Pollard to the backfield closes the door on Derrick Henry returning to Nashville. Henry is the franchise leader in rushing touchdowns with 90 and second in rushing yards with 9,502 only trailing Eddie George (10,009) in Titans/Oilers history.
The 27-year-old played his college ball at Memphis, making this deal a homecoming for the lead back. In five seasons in Dallas, Pollard totaled 3,621 rush yards and 23 TDs along with 176 rushes for 1,319 yards and five more scores. he totaled 1,316 scrimmage yards in 17 starts in 2023, which nearly matched his 2022 total, that production came on 75 more touches than the season before.
Gabe Davis off to Duvall
After playing four years in Buffalo with Josh Allen as his quarterback, Gabe Davis is heading south for sunny Florida. Davis is signing a three-year deal worth $39 million with the Jaguars, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
With Davis in the fold, he will join Christian Kirk on offense as Trevor Lawrence’s weapons at wide receiver. The former 2020 fourth-round pick by the Bills played a massive role in the offense the last couple of seasons.
Davis started every game last season and caught 45 passes for all 746 yards and seven touchdowns. He had 163 catches for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns over his entire time with the AFC East club and added six more touchdowns in the NFL Playoffs.
With the addition of Davis, the Jaguars could release Zay Jones and save nearly $4.2 million in salary cap space. He struggled through an injury plagued 2023 season, recording just 321 receiving yards.
