NFL teams can assign the franchise tag on players beginning today
First notable day of the offseason for the NFL
Today marks the beginning of NFL franchise tag window.
Teams can tag their upcoming free agents, one per team. Tagging a player on a franchise tag allows their teams to keep their stars for one more year based on set value at their position.
Notable names include: Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley, Orlando Brown and Josh Jacobs.
In terms of the Patriots, there are no players that can be realistic for a franchise tag.
Tagging Jakobi Meyers would be $19.743 million this season. It should be noted that the Patriots can workout a longer term deal with Meyers under the tag. Meyers is a favorite of quarterback Mac Jones but he is a borderline number two wideout in a good offense.
The deadline for teams to make a decision until March 7th.
