NFC Classic Rivalry: Saints and Falcons
The Saints poke front at their divisional rival Falcons
As the NFL season slowly approaches one of the NFC’s most prestige rivalries in the last decade will feature a few new faces this season. The Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints. The Week One matchup will mark the 106th time the two teams have met with the Falcons leading the series 53-52.
Last season the two met in what could have been a very pivotal Week 18 matchup for the Saints as they looked to clinch a playoff spot.
In that Week 18 matchup, the Falcons would refrain from putting “New Orleans” on their scoreboard and just leave it as “Away” on their side. The Saints responded back today leaving the infamous “28-3” score on the team’s scoreboard during practice on Wednesday.
The Falcons will be without Matt Ryan who joined the Colts this offseason. Marcus Mariota will be leading the charge against The Who Dat nation to kickoff the season. Saints running back Alvin Kamara will be looking to start the year strong after a down and disappointing 2021 campaign.
Tho the Falcons have reached the Super Bowl in the last few seasons. While the Saints have had the most recent success among the two however, the blown 25-point lead jokes seemingly never get old. With the two having new faces and new coaches with the departure of Sean Payton this NFC South rivalry will be one to follow this season as the hate is seemingly never-ending and could possibly flip the all-time record with a Saints sweep.
