New WooSox reliever pitches two scoreless innings in team debut
Brennan Bernardino makes his WooSox debut in loss against the War Pigs
The Red Sox claimed reliever Brennan Bernardino off waivers on April 16 from the Seattle Mariners.
The lefty made his WooSox team debut on Friday night against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
The southpaw came in for A.J. Politi eight inning. He would pitch two scoreless innings for the WooSox. The only trouble he Bernardino got into was when he hit Dalton Guthrie but then would later pick him off first.
Boston claimed Bernardino after the club placed right-handed reliever Zack Kelly on the 60-day injured list. Kelly will have elbow surgery following an injury against the Rays.
The 31-year-old has made two major league appearances, both with Seattle. He allowed one earned run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings during his brief stint in the big leagues.
This season while pitching for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, Bernardino pitched six innings, yielded eight runs all of them earned, 13 hits with 11 strikeouts.
