New Red Sox prospect Max Ferguson hits first home run since being acquired from Padres
The former Vols prospect brings speed and athleticism to the Sox farm system
Max Ferguson was one of the two prospects who came over with Eric Hosmer in the deal with the Padres back at the trade deadline. On Sunday afternoon, Ferguson hit is first homer as a member of the Red Sox organization.
The Greenville Drive’s starting shortstop batted ninth during the game. He went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored including the homer.

The left-handed hitting Ferguson hasn’t turned heads since his trade to the Sox organization. He’s has batted .225/.392/.325 to go along with one double, one home run, six runs driven in, 10 runs scored, three stolen bases in 51 plate appearances.
Ferguson who’ll turn 23 on Tuesday is currently ranked as the Red Sox No. 57 prospect according to SoxProspects. The speedy Ferguson has 58 stolen bases this season.
Ferguson and David Hamilton have elite speed and could provide a new dynamic within the Sox system as they continue to develop.
The young infielder came over with Hosmer and Corey Rosier in exchange for Jay Groome. The Padres will pay the majority of Hosmer’s contract with Boston on the hook for the veteran minimum.
