New Red Sox pitching prospect David Sandlin on taking part in the Spring Breakout: ‘It means the world’
This past week, the Red Sox announced their roster for the 2024 Spring Breakout. The four-day event is going to showcase the games future starts around the league.
Newly acquired starting pitching prospect David Sandlin was one of the players named to the Red Sox roster.
“It means the world for the Red Sox to allow me to be apart of the Spring Breakout Roster,” Sandlin said exclusively to Beyond the Monster on Saturday.
“Specially being with the team for just over a couple weeks now it truly is an honor to have the chance to go out in an atmosphere that has so much talent for all the teams, to represent the Boston Red Sox organization,” added Sandlin.
The Red Sox acquired Sandlin this spring in a trade with the Royals that sent reliever John Schreiber to Kansas City. Sandlin is one of the many new young arms that chief baseball officer Craig Breslow acquired this offseason in an attempt to rebuild a pitching pipeline for the major league roster.
“We had identified (him) early on as someone that we think is on the rise and has the makings of a legitimate starting pitcher,” Breslow said following acquiring Sandlin in February.
“Loved the stuff, loved the makeup and we’ve seen the stuff take a pretty significant step forward. Anytime you make these trades, you have to recognize that we’re trading a really talented pitcher over there and that was difficult. Certainly wasn’t an easy decision. But like I said, I feel like my job is to do what is best for the organization. And I think this is a chance to do that,” added Breslow.
Sandlin and his teammates will take part in the league’s inaugural event on March 16 against the Braves from JetBlue Park.
“I think what I am looking forward to the most out of this game is just being in a great atmosphere with fans in a big league spring training park, playing against and with some of the most talented prospects in baseball,” said Sandlin.
