New Red Sox pitcher throws solid first start for Worcester
The new pitching signing made his WooSox debut on Wednesday night in Worcester.
Kyle Barraclough made the start and showed promise to be exactly what Chaim Bloom signed him for; to be a depth starting pitching option. He threw 6 scoreless innings and gave up only hit. On the down side, he did walk 4 hitters and only strikeout 2, but was able to work out of innings due to weak contact off the bat.
“Five innings and 85 pitches is what we were thinking but he was through five in 50 pitches so he looked awesome.” WooSox manager Chad Tracy said postgame. “He pounded the strike zone, threw all of his stuff over the plate, worked ahead in the count and produced weak contact. That’s what happens when you throw strikes and you can move the ball around a bit. He is a verteran guy and has been around awhile, so that was cool to see and he will help us for sure.”
“It’s huge to have a veteran like him around.” Tracy added. “Good for the younger guys to have a guy like that they can pick his brain. Also it’s a guy who has been around the big leagues for a while too.”
Barraclough came over to the Red Sox after pitching in Indy ball to start the year, where he pitched in 7 games and had a 1.00 ERA. He gave up 2 earned runs over 18 innings pitched this year in those outings.
