New Red Sox lefty Joe Jacques had Yankees series circled on calendar for debut
It’s been reported that left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques has been added the the 40-man roster and has been called up to the Red Sox bullpen.
Sometimes it’s crazy how things works itself out.
Jacques is a New Jersey native and attended Manhattan for college. Yankee Stadium is about an hour drive from his home town of Shrewbury.
Earlier this week, I had the chance to speak with Jacques in the WooSox clubhouse. He’s a very approachable guy to talk to, and always says hello. We ended up on the topic of a potential call-up to the majors due to his success this season in Worcester’s bullpen.
The 28-year-old mentioned how he had circled the Yankees series on his calendar back in Spring Training to finally make his MLB debut. He mentioned to me this morning that it’s “really hard to believe” he is going home to play in his hometown stadium.
It’s a more than deserving promotion for Jacques. He has been pitching in Triple-A since 2021 dating back to his days in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He has one of the lowest ERAs on the WooSox pitching staff in 3.58. Left-handed hitters are hitting .167 off of him this season.
