NDSU pitcher Cade Feeney on being drafted by Red Sox: 'I was hoping they were the team'
Cade Feeney was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota. During his time at Bismarck Century High School, Feeney was named the 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year in North Dakota. After high school, he made his way to North Dakota State and was a successful starter for three years.
The right-hander went 21-9 during his college career and had 196 strikeouts compared to only 45 walks over 229.2 innings pitched. He is coming off a 2023 season where he earned himself a part of the All-Summit League First Team. That ultimately led the Red Sox to select Feeney with their 13th round pick.
Now, his next chapter turns to the east coast.
Feeney joked that he will miss the hunting and fishing that he knows so well in North Dakota but also noted he does like the east coast.
“It was an amazing feeling.” Feeney said to Beyond the Monster of being drafted by the Red Sox. “I had a good relationship with Fred Peterson and went out to Fenway in June for a workout. We stayed in contact up to the draft and I was hoping they were the team.”
It might be safe to say that Red Sox might not have watched too many North Dakota State baseball games this year, or even the past three years. Many might not know anything about him at all, so I had to ask what fans in New England should expect as he enters the organization.
“A very competitive pitcher who can mix three pitches.” Feeney noted. “One that doesn’t like to lose and will find a way to get it done.”
