Morgan Geekie embracing new role

Due to injuries, the Bruins have had to tinker with their lines the last two weeks. That has led to Morgan Geekie getting some minutes in the top six. While the sample size is small, the 25-year-old is making the most of his opportunities.
Since being moved into his new role, Geekie has four points. He has been aggressive with the puck during that stretch and played at least 17 minutes a game. The Bruins have had to adjust on the fly, but Geekie has helped provide a boost with Pavel Zacha currently on the injured reserve.
Although Geekie’s statistics may not jump off the page, he has ten points in 23 games this season. Regardless of the role, he has been an effective piece and helped put his linemates in a place to be successful.
When asked by the media about stepping up in Zacha’s absence on December 9, Geekie kept things simple: “Any time a player of his caliber goes down, it’s a hit to us. If you got a good group, everyone’s going to step up, everyone’ gonna play more minutes. I just try to go out there and do my job fill in anywhere,” he said.
With Zacha's return date yet to be determined, Geekie could get a few more opportunities on one of the Bruins's top two lines. He has been a scoring machine of late and landed six hits in his last four games. His willingness to sacrifice his body makes him a perfect fit on the Bruins roster.
If he can continue his recent play, Bruins' head coach, Jim Montgomery, could have some interesting lineup choices once everyone is healthy.
