Mookie Betts on NLDS performance: ‘I did absolutely nothing’
The former Red Sox superstar went cold at the plate during the postseason
The Los Angeles Dodgers season came to an end on Wednesday after the Arizona Diamondbacks swept them in the NLDS.
Former Red Sox superstar Mookie Betts went hitless in the series and told reporters following the Game 3 loss that he did “nothing” to help his team win in the postseason.
“It’s obviously super frustrating,” said Betts. “There is no real words for it. They’d play better. We didn’t do much -- I can’t speak for all of us, but I know, for sure, I did absolutely nothing to help us win.”
The Dodgers were coming off another 100-win season and won the NL West. They looked like heavy favorites to make a World Series run as they entered the postseason, but their bats failed to show up in the series.
Betts went 0-for-11 with a walk and one run scored in the series. He struck out twice and reach base once because of an error.
The seven-time All-Star was having a dominant MVP season but prior to the postseason, his bat went silent. After Sept. 1, Bets hit just .244 with a .718 OPS and one homer. Overall he hit .307 with a career-high 39 homers and a .987 this season.
Despite the strong season at the plate, Betts and the Dodgers will watch the remainder of the postseason from home.
“I didn’t do very much towards the end of the season,” Betts said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s frustrating or not, you’ve got to get the job done. Doesn’t matter how you were playing, doesn’t matter what was going on. At the end of the day, when this postseason starts, you’ve gotta get the job done.”
