Mobile wagering is officially live in Massachusetts
Mobile wagering went live at 10 a.m. across the Commonwealth on Friday
It’s finally here, as of 10 a.m. Friday morning, mobile wagering is officially live in the state of Massachusetts.
You’ll now have the ability to place a bet on sports on your mobile device from the comfort of your couch, bed, the toilet or wherever you’re heart desires.
Mobile sports betting has dominated the legalized sports gambling landscape for many year. American Gaming Association estimating that 89.2 percent of revenue from sports wagers comes from mobile betting, with the latter coming from retail.
Revenue generated from mobile betting in the Commonwealth will be taxed at a 20 percent rate. Retail sportsbooks are taxed at 15 percent.
Many sports gambling outlets have been offering promotions for the launch of mobile betting in Massachusetts.
BetMGM and DraftKings are offering $200 spread out over four $50 bonus bets for new customers. FanDuel was offering $100 in bonus bets for only new customers.
Caesars and Barstool SportsBook is offering a $100 bonus. Barstool has a $1,000 insurance policy covering your first bet if it loses. WynnBet featured a $50 bonus bet for signing up and $100 bet credit for launch day.
A couple of housekeeping notes, in the state of Massachusetts, you have to be 21-years-old to place a bet.
The launch of mobile gambling coincides with the NCAA tournament which is set to begin on March 14. The new sports gambling law in Massachusetts will allow gamblers to wager on the tournament for March Maddness. However, you will be prohibited to place bets on in-state colleges and universities unless they are participating in the tournament.
“College basketball. If you don’t know anything about college basketball - don’t bet it, but if you hear some good research. You hear some good intake on it alright you can shop around and put a little money on a certain market,” said NESN sports betting analyst, Claudia Bellofatto.
