MLB Notes of Interest: Jonathan India on the block, Michael A. Taylor, Feede looking to play back in the bigs
Jonathan India has gone from 2021 NL rookie of the year to potential trade candidate for up and coming Cincinnati Reds.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that India is a popular name among executives at the GM Meetings as multiple teams have inquired about his availability. He also added that while the Reds will listen to offers, they value India highly, and aren’t motivated to move him.
With young emerging stars in Matt McLain and Spencer Steer it is not surprising to see that India could potentially be dealt this winter. He is arbitration eligible and won’t be a free agent until after 2026 season. India has had back to back of years hitting below .250 and was a -6 in OAA last season, which actually represented his best yet.
During his rookie of the year campaign he slashed .269/.376/.459 and hit a career high 21 homeruns. The soon to be 27-year-old beat outfielder Dylan Carlson and reliever Trevor rogers for the award.
Michael A. Taylor headed north of the border?
Michael A. Taylor is one of many outfielders that hit the free agent market on Monday. Morosi posted that the Toronto Blue Jays are showing interest in the 32-year-old.
Toronto is looking to fill the role of Kevin Kiermaier who is also on the market. Taylor had 21 homeruns for the Minnesota Twins last season. That tied his total for the previous two seasons when played for the Royals. Taylor also added a gold glove to his name in 2021.
Erik Freede generating interest
There will be multiple international free agents this offseason making their way over to the MLB. One of them being a former Washington National is who might be looking to return.
Erik Feede who last pitched in the MLB in 2022 is drawing MLB interest according to Jon Heyman. Heyman notes that Feede went 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA and won the Dong-won award for the NC Dinos. The award is the Korean equivalent of the Cy Young.
The 30-year-old right hander has pitched in 454.1 innings (102 appearances, 88 starts) in the majors dating back to 2017. He compiled a 5.41 ERA and struck out 352. Feede did an interview with Yonhap News back in July where he contributed his sweeper as the key to his success.
