MLB Hot Stove Trade Alert: Yankees make a minor 3-player trade, Braves deal reliever to the Royals, Athletics acquire Abraham Toro
The New York Yankees traded first baseman and outfielder Jake Bauers to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, per New York Post’s Joel Sherman.
The Bronx Bombers will acquire two minor league outfielders, Jace Avina and Brian Sánchez. The 28-year-old Bauers was a temporary option for Aaron Boone’s lineup after mashing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Bauers was a non-tender candidate after struggling in limited action this past season. The Brewers will have Bauers under team control for the next three seasons.
Over 84 games he slashed .202/.279/.413 with 12 homeruns. The lefty split time between both corner outfield spots and 1B with 33 appearances in right.
Avina and Sánchez were both low-level prospects for the Brewers. Avina was ranked as the 29th prospect in their system.
The 19-year-old Sánchez made his pro debut this year and slashed .297/.414/.446 in the Dominican Summer League.
Braves trade right-handed reliever to the Royals
The Atlanta Braves traded veteran right-handed reliever Nick Anderson to the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Anderson was a candidate to be non-tendered by the Braves prior to Friday night’s deadline.
The Royals designated left-hander Austin Cox for assignment to make room for Anderson on the 40-man roster.
Anderson, 33, was projected to earn $1.6 million per MLB Trade Rumors. He had a solid year with Atlanta pitching to a 3.06 ERA with 36/9 K/BB ratio over 35 1/3 innings.
Unfortunately, his season was cut short from a shoulder strain. Prior to landing on the 60-day injured list, he recorded 15 holds for the Braves.
Athletics acquire infielder Abraham Toro from the Brewers
The Brewers have been active the last 48 hours addressing their roster ahead of the non-tender deadline on Friday night.
Milwaukee traded infielder Abraham Toro to the Athletics for right-handed pitcher Chad Patrick.
Toro heads to the Athletics after spending last season in Milwaukee. He landed with the Brewers as part of the Jesse Winker-Kolten Wong deal the previous year.
Toro had a very good season for the Sounds, batting .291 with an .845 OPS and 58 RBIs in 96 games. He had a few brief call ups with Milwaukee, though he did perform well in a very brief sample size, going 8-for-18 with a pair of home runs in nine games.
Patrick heads to the Brewers who are retooling, the right-handed pitcher has produced 189 strikeouts over 176 innings during his first three career minor league seasons.
The right has a career 4.96 ERA and a 1.534 WHIP in 42 games (36 starts). It’s expected he will begin the season with the BrewCrew’s Triple-A team.
