The Boston Red Sox had guys like Jordan Beck, Drew Gilbert and Jacob Melton fall to them at the number 24 pick in the first round of the MLB Draft, however, the Sox went with another young prodigy in Mikey Romero.
Romero, 18, was selected by the Red Sox out of Orange Lutheran High School and was not projected to go to the Sox on any major draft.board.
Sure, there was pitching available and probably better options for hitters available, but Chaim Bloom and the front office saw something in Romero.
Romero, who was ranked as the 65th best prospect in the MLB Draft, had a 55 hit grade, 40 power grade, 50 run grade, 55 arm grade, 55 field grade, and 50 overall grade.
Romero will have a choice to make, sign with the Sox or walk away and stick out his commitment to LSU.
