Masataka Yoshida returns to the Red Sox lineup, bats sixth and will be the designated hitter
Red Sox left fielder Masataka Yoshida has missed the last four games, but will return to the lineup on Sunday. Yoshida will hit sixth and be the designated hitter as the club looks to make it three wins in a row against the Angels.
The Japanese star has missed the last four games with right hamstring tightness.
This season, manager Alex Cora has penciled Yoshida in the cleanup spot in the lineup. On Sunday, Yoshida will hit sixth for the first time this season. The Angels are starting left-hander Reid Detmers on the mound, which could also contribute to Yoshida sliding down the lineup.
Yoshida is expected to play left field on Monday, per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.
Boston signed Yoshida this offseason to a five-year, $90 million deal. He showed off his skill set at the World Baseball Classic for Team Japan. Since the season has started, Yoshida has struggled at the plate, he is hitting .216 with one homer and six RBIs.
