The Seattle Mariners have told phenom prospect outfielder Julio Rodriguez he has made their Opening Day roster. Rodriguez came into Spring Training and kicked the door down to earn a spot with the club.
The 21-year-old Rodriguez will be the Mariners starting centerfielder and the hype around his presence in the lineup is sky-high.
The sky is the limit for Julio Rodriguez
Rodriguez who is ranked as baseball’s No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline has done nothing but rake this spring. The phenom has hit .419 while crushing three homers and driving in 8 RBIs. In addition, he posted a slash line of .471/.839/1.309.
Mariners manager Scott Servais says that “the sky is the limit” for the rookie outfielder. “The sky is the limit for what this guy is going to do,” said Servais.
The Mariners are banking on Rodriguez to make a massive impact at the major league level. He has not played higher than Double-A Arkansas. Rodriguez split time between Double-A and Single-A Everett where he hit .347 with 13 home runs and drove in 47 RBIs in 74 games between the two teams.
“He’s a fun player to watch, obviously … a ton of ability and a great personality on top,” Servais said earlier this week. “It’s such a high, high ceiling. That’s what excites everyone that’s around him.”
Rodriguez will struggle at times, but that’s fine
While he is going to be a superstar at the major league level, fans should understand he will struggle at the dish like most young players. The Mariners are aware of that fact but aren’t concerned. The club loves the Rodriguez’s demeanor and makeup.
Rodriguez has all the tools needed to succeed to become a huge talent in baseball. He has immense confidence and fans of the Mariners are fired up to see him this coming season. The young outfielder is getting to live out his dream to become a big leaguer, he’s a rare talent making the jump from Double-A to the bigs. Rodriguez has superstar written all over him.
