The Red Sox need another right-handed slugger for their lineup. Boston was left-handed heavy last season and with Justin Turner and Adam Duvall free agents, the need for right-handed pop will be paramount this winter.
Free agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández is expected to be heavily pursued by teams this winter, with the Red Sox hot on his trail.
"Teoscar Hernández is going to get a much bigger contract than you expect for a career .261 hitter with a .316 on-base percentage," Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham reported. "He has an .803 OPS the last three seasons with 83 homers and he crushes lefties. For teams such as the Red Sox, who need right-handed power, he’ll be high on the list."
The 31-year-old is an intriguing option for the Sox’ lineup. He has hit 31 homers in each of his last four seasons, excluding the COVID-shortened season.
Hernández was had a decent year at the dish last season, bashing 26 homers with 93 RBIs and mashing 29 doubles for the Mariners. With the Red Sox looking to add right-handed power to their lineup and a trade of an existing outfielder on the roster, Hernández would make a ton of sense.
Hernández has primarily played right field in his career and if the Sox trade Alex Verdugo, he could easily man the position at Fenway Park.
