Mariners’ Easton McGee loses no-hitter bid, lands on injured list following brilliant start
Easton McGee with a great start Saturday for the Mariners
Early Saturday morning the Seattle Mariners called up the right-handed pitcher Easton McGee from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainers. He would make his first major league career start.
McGee looked rather impressive going 6.2 innings against a tough Toronto Blue Jays offense.
Before making his start, McGee had only made one major league appearance. Last season he made his big league sebut out of the bullpen for the Rays.
In his start, McGee carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Matt Chapman hit a double. The Mariners went on to lose the game in extra innings, 1-0.
The Mariners are currently 0-5 this season in extra innings.
McGee threw 64 pitchers in his appearance, he saw his fastball hit 96 mph. He mixed in an efficient slider throughout the game. The righty features a five pitch mix, sinker, slider, cutter, changeup, and a four-seam fastball.
The 25-year-old struck out two in his appearance while walking one.
McGee was briefly a member of the Red Sox organization. The team claimed him off waivers from the Rays back in October.
Following his start on Saturday, the Mariners placed McGee on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain.
