Marcelo Mayer nearing a return to action after missing time with a wrist injury
Boston’s top prospect Marcelo Mayer has been out of the lineup for the Salem Red Sox since April 23 with a sore wrist.
Mayer is inching closer to a return to the lineup, per SoxProspects executive editor Chris Hatfield.
It’s unknown as to how Mayer was injured but the Red Sox have been cautious with their prized prospect.
On the season, Mayer has one home run, 10 runs batted in, and is slashing .333/.397/.491 with an OPS of .888 in 57 at-bats through 13 games played.
The 19-year-old Mayer is playing in his first full professional season. Boston selected him No. 4 overall in the 2021 MLB Draft.
While he has been out of the lineup, the young phenom has been partaking in baseball activities including swinging.
Mayer was recently ranked as the No. 14 prospect in Major League Baseball by Baseball America. The Red Sox have five players on the Top 100 list.
