After missing weeks of baseball, the Boston Red Sox top prospect, Marcelo Mayer showed up in a great way for the Salem Red Sox on Sunday in the clubs, 8-7 loss to Delmarva.
Mayer went three-for-six with two RBI and three doubles, he now has nine doubles on the season for Salem.
Blaze Jordan went one-for-six with a home run, his third of the year. Also contributing to Salem’s offense was Jose Garcia who went two-for-four with two RBI.
Wikelman Gonzalez got the nod for Salem as he worked six innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five. He now has 31 strikeouts over 25 and two thirds innings.
Nate Tellier worked two innings of relief for Salem and he struck out four. He did not allow a hit or a run.
Joey Stock and Adenys Bautista combined for two and two thirds innings with three hits and four runs. Stock had a chance to save the game for Salem, but was tagged with a blown save. Bautista also had a chance to earn the save, he also was tagged the blown save and the loss, both were his first of the year.
Salem (17-16) will look to bounce back on Tuesday with a six-game series against Lynchburg (17-15).
