It didn’t take long for Red Sox top prospect Marcelo Mayer to hit his first home run in High-A. In fact, it took him a shorter time to hit his first home run with Greenville than what it did with Low-A Salem.
While with Salem, Mayer didn’t hit his first home run until 13 games in.
On Saturday night, it was just his fifth game with Greenville and he went deep off of Hickory’s (Rangers High-A) relief pitcher Robby Ahlstrom.
Mayer now has an average of .277 with 10 home runs along with 42 RBIs over 274 at-bats for the entire season. He also has 16 stolen bases.
