Marcelo Mayer collects first triple in season opener for the Greenville Drive
Red Sox too prospect Marcelo Mayer is ranked as the No. 12 prospect in the game according to Baseball America. On Thursday night, the top prospect showed off his bat for the Greenville Drive, connecting for an RBI-triple into right field.
In the top of the first, Mayer tripled past Rome Braves right fielder Brandol Mezquita. His first triple of the season scored infielder Chase Meidroth.
The 20-year-old went 1-for-4 in the season opener. He struck out one time, while leaving three runners on base.
Meidroth who scored on the Mayer triple went 3-for-3, he walked once and scored one run.
Mayer is ranked Boston’s No. 1 prospect by Baseball America. Overall in 2022, he slashed .280/.399/.489/.888 with 13 homers, 30 doubles, two triples and 17 steals in 91 games between Salem and Greenville.
