Machine Time: Albert Pujols to participate in the Home Run Derby
Albert Pujols to participate in the Homerun Derby festivities during his final All-Star weekend
With the Home Run Derby looming in the background and set to take place next Monday in Hollywood, big names are set to be participating. The much anticipated back-to-back winner Pete Alonso of the New York Mets will be looking to defend his title while Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna will join the current field of hitters.
Perhaps the people’s favorite and five time participant Albert Pujols will be a fun name to watch. Pujols was nominated by commissioner Rob Manfred in part to the newest tweak in the CBA. It allows him to vote in one person from each respective league.
On Monday, it was confirmed Pujols will be partaking in the Home Run Derby after hitting his 684th home run the day before. He last competed in 2015 being eliminated by runner-up Joc Pederson in Cinncinati in the second round.
Pujols will be hitting again at Dodger Stadium after playing most of last season in Los Angeles before signing and returning to St.Louis for his last season. The man we know as “The Machine” is hitting .215 this season with 5 long balls in his 22nd season.
