Mac Jones: ‘I hate saying it’s the preseason, but there’s a lot you can learn from preseason games’
The Patriots offense wasn’t very good on Friday night against the Raiders. Mac Jones led his team on four drives that only resulted in three points.
Two of those four drives, Jones and his teammates went three and out. While another Jones threw a terrible interception which was picked by the Raiders Luke Masterson.
Jones finished completing 9 of 13 passes for 71 yards and one interception. He was sacked twice for 19 yards. Overall, the Patriots offense picked up 74 total yards on 24 plays, for an average of just over three yards per play.
“I think I care I care a lot about this game,” Jones said postgame. “I sometimes get a little bit too passionate. But at the same time, it’s a great point. Don’t let it carry over. I don't think I did that.
“After the interception and all that, I tried to just clean the plate, and start fresh. Sometimes it’s getting the frustration out and moving on. Obviously, I need to do a better job of just playing the next play, and don't let one little play get frustrating.”
The Patriots did have two scores called back due to offensive penalties. Jones connected on an 8-yard touchdown strike to DeVante Parker but that was overturned due to offensive pass interference. Rookie running back Pierre Strong had his 3-yard score called back due to a holding penalty by tight end Jalen Wydermyer.
Despite the offensive struggles, Jones remains optimistic for this team. “I hate saying it’s the preseason, but there’s a lot you can learn from preseason games. It’s not like we’re in the middle of the season here. You want to peak when you want to peak,” Jones said. “Right now we’re where we are. We’re just going to keep growing and climb the mountain.”
