The Ohtani chase continues. Rumors have been swirling as where the Japanese phenom might land, despite his camp wanting to operate quietly.
During a scheduled appearance with reporters at the Winter Meetings, Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts spoke openly about Ohtani. A different approach than the Toronto Blue Jays who have not directly confirmed any interest.
Roberts told reporters that Ohtani met with the team a few days ago for about two to three hours. “I think it went well,” he said, via the video from the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast. Adding that he is a top priority for the Dodgers this winter.
Ohtani and his agent prefer to not have leaks about meeting with teams, Roberts comments at the Winter Meetings are curious approach. It remains to be seen if his comments will actually have any impact on the Dodgers landing the superstar.
Ken Rosenthal of the Atheltic did report that Ohtani met with the Blue Jays at their spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida.
“It is not known whether Ohtani is close to a deal with any team. His free agency remains shrouded in secrecy, and officials with interested teams say his agent, Nez Balelo, has warned them that leaking any details of the process would be held against them,” reported Rosenthal.
The majority of the free agent market remains at a standstill until the AL MVP makes his decision.
