Kutter Crawford ‘executed better’ in win over the Tigers
Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford was able to keep the Tigers offense in check and earn his first win of the 2023 season.
Crawford took the mound on Sunday afternoon following a tough outing earlier in the week against the Pirates, giving up seven earned runs over four innings.
The 27-year-old pitched 5 innings, allowing one run, giving up five hits with six strikeouts in the win Sunday.
“I think I executed better, and I think being able to pitch off my fastball, using my fastball more kind of opened up things and I was able to kind of move it around the zone, up, down, in and out, kind of really opened up more options for me later in the count,” Crawford said to reporters.
Crawford is looking to stick around in the Red Sox rotation. Garrett Whitlock set to return, Brayan Bello and James Paxton expected back soon, Crawford maybe one of the pitchers sent to Triple-A Worcester to create roster spots.
The right-handed hurler is not scheduled to pitch in the four game series in Tampa that begins on Monday night. Despite not pitching, he is happy to have helped complete the sweep in Detroit and give the team momentum against the Rays.
“I think it’s huge,” Crawford said. “Being able to sweep any series, much less on the road, I think it’s huge for the team and hopefully boost us into the Tampa series.”
