Kiké Hernández to miss Monday night's game with hamstring injury, Pablo Reyes starts at shortstop
Hernández is dealing with a hamstring injury, Pablo Reyes looks to make it three straight games with a hit
The Boston Red Sox will welcome the Seattle Mariners to Fenway Park for a three game series that will begin on Monday night.
Boston will be without shortstop Kiké Hernández for a few days after he tweaked his left hamstring. Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that the injury is considered to be minor. It’s unclear whether his injury will require a stint on the injured list.
The injury happened on Saturday afternoon trying to beat out a double play.
“Kiké Hernandez says he’s day to day with a left hamstring strain. Said he tweaked it trying to beat out a double play on Saturday. Said he was trying to be like Duran with speed and it was a bad idea but should be ok in a couple days,” tweeted The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey.
Hernández went 1-for-7 this weekend against the Cardinals. His only hit came in the game on Saturday, where he went 1-for3.
Despite a cold weekend, the super utilityman is batting .286 over his last 27 games that dates back to April 12. Hernández is 30-for-50 with seven doubles, a homer, 10 RBIs, five walks and scored 16 runs during that span.
With Hernández on the mend, Boston will start newly acquired Pablo Reyes at shortstop for a second straight night.
Reyes has gotten hits in both of his starts (3-for-6) with a double and a walk. Prior to being acquired by the Red Sox, the 29-year-old played 21 games this season for the Athletics Triple-A affiliate.
