Kiké Hernández smashes dinger off Eduardo Rodriguez, then taps his wrist while in the home run laundry cart
The Red Sox bats through the first five games of the season were silent. It wasn’t until the fifth game of the season that the Red Sox bats woke up. Boston erupted for five runs on nine hits on Tuesday in a comeback win over the Tigers.
On Wednesday, the bats continued to rake at the expense of former Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Coming into the game, this was the first time Boston would face their former teammate. The Red Sox offense tattooed Rodriguez for seven hits, seven runs but only two of the runs were earned. Rodriguez lasted 3 2/3 innings before being pulled by manager AJ Hinch.
Kiké Hernández started the season 0-for-17 at the plate but his time Detroit has allowed him to get into a rhythm at the plate. Hernández hit his first homer of the 2022 season off Rodriguez.
On a 1-1 pitch, Hernández smashed an 87-mph change up from Rodriguez over the left field wall. The solo dinger tied the game at 1-1 and the Red Sox offense began to fire on all cylinders.
While in the Red Sox dugout, Hernández took a ride in the home run cart. As Hernández was in the home run cart he would tap his wrist referring to the Carlos Correa-Eduardo Rodriguez watch time from the ALCS last season.
Hernández wrist point seemed like it was some good nature ribbing of his old teammate. Boston’s offense over the last two games shows some of the potential it has at scoring runs at will during the season.
