Kiké Hernandez playing recruiter on Instagram?
When the Red Sox signed Kiké Hernandez to a one-year, $10 million contract extension, Chaim Bloom made him a promise.
“He knows that the most important thing for me is not just the opportunity to play every day, but how much it means for me to play every day for a winning team. I’m not going to say he promised me — but he promised me that we’re going to be way better next year,” said Hernandez after inking his new deal.
Bloom went onto WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show and slightly walked back those comments. “I think Kiké was paraphrasing a little, because there’s only so much we control,” said Bloom.
Whether or not Bloom told Hernandez they’d be “way better,” is he is already trying to recruit players to Boston?
On Friday morning, free agent outfielder Joc Pederson took to Instagram and posted a video of him hitting a homer during the Braves 2021 postseason run.
He would caption the post, “I miss playoff baseball ⚾️.”
The Red Sox centerfielder wasted no time to comment saying, “It’s okay…. We’ll be back.”
Is that Hernandez’s subtle use of the word “we’ll” his way of beginning the recruiting process for Pederson to join the Red Sox?
If so there’s one problem, Tommy Pham may return to the Red Sox and the two have some bad blood. It all stems back from a Fantasy Football League and Pham slapping Pederson in the face.
This past season Pederson hit .274 with 23 homers, 104 hits, 70 RBIs while slashing .353/.521/.874.
It’s expected that the Giants are going to attempt to re-sign the playoff hero.
“It’s been nice. I’ve really had fun,” said Pederson, a Palo Alto native. “First class organization. They do everything the right way. I’m glad I got to be a part of it for a year.”
Hernandez played with Pederson in Los Angeles and knows what kind of teammate he’d be in Boston. The Red Sox have numerous holes to fill and Pederson could fill a void in the outfield and at designated hitter.
It’s nice to see Red Sox players on social media mixing it up with other players and possibly recruiting them to Boston. While Hernandez post is playful at best, Bloom made a promise and Hernandez will see he keeps it this offseason.
