Kenley Jansen placed on the COVID-IL, Red Sox recall lefty from Triple-A Worcester
The Red Sox are placing All-Star closer Kenley Jansen on the COVID-related IL and will recall lefty Brandon Walter from Triple-A Worcester.
Jansen was removed from Tuesday night’s game against the Yankees due to experiencing dizziness.
“He was a little bit dizzy,” Alex Cora said to reporters post game. “They’re checking on him. So we’ll see where we’re at with him.”
Jansen entered the game with the Sox trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth and faced just two batters. He walked Oswaldo Cabrera, then gave up a single Everson Pereira.
Recently promoted reliever Nick Robertson replaced Jansen and also gave up a run.
Walter returns to Boston after pitching a strong month of August for the WooSox.
The southpaw has allowed 17 runs, 16 earned, 30 hits and seven walks in 20 major-league innings this season.
Walter last appeared for the Red Sox last Friday against the Orioles. The 27-year-old allowed four runs while only recording just four outs. He was initially recalled as a Sept. call-up and allowed 11 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
