Justin Turner injured, leaves game after getting hit in the face with a pitch
There was an incredibly scary moment during the Red Sox game on Monday afternoon. Justin Turner was hit in the face by a Matt Manning fastball in the bottom of the first inning.
Turner immediately dropped to the dirt, grabbing his face. Alex Cora and the trainers came running out of the dugout to check on and tend to the first baseman. The 38-year-old began to bleed from what appeared to be his mouth or nose.
The trainer covered his bloody face with a towel.
Turner walked off the field with the help of the trainer and never appeared to lose consciousness.
Turner is being treated at the hospital for “soft-tissue injuries” and is being monitored for a concussion. He is “stable, alert, and in good spirits considering the circumstances,” per Jahmai Webster via the Red Sox PR department.
