Justin Turner could return to game action next week
Red Sox designated hitter Justin Turner could return to game action on next week. Turner could be penciled into the lineup as early as Monday against the Pirates.
The 38-year-old has been out of action since getting hit in the face which required 16 stitches.
Alex Cora told reporters reporters Turner is expected to take the field, and if things go well, he will be in the lineup against the Pirates, according to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey.
To begin the spring, Turner has appeared in six Grapefruit League games. The right-handed hitter has gone 3-for-12 (.250) with one RBI, four runs scored, one walk, and one strikeout in that stretch.
Turner will wear a C-flap helmet on Friday for the first time. The 2020 World Series champion said has resisted it up to this point in his career because he doesn’t want anything in his field of vision, according to The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Turner said.
