Jrue Holiday on his Celtics debut: ‘It felt good’
Jrue Holiday made his Celtics debut on Wednesday night and the two-time All-Star didn’t disappoint.
Holiday was tasked in covering Knicks’ star Julius Randle holding him to just 14 points on 22 shots.
"Felt good. (It was) definitely a good test. It was fun to go out there,” said Holiday on his first game wearing green. “Obviously, (it's) fun to play at Madison Square Garden for your first game and feel this type of rivalry, so it was a good test for us."
Holiday registered nine points, four rebounds, three blocks, and two assists in the 108-104 victory over the Knicks.
Fellow teammate Kristaps Porzingis added 30 points in his team debut. The new big man and Holiday add a new dynamic with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown heading into the new season.
Holiday likes what he’s seen through one game and talked about what he learned after the win.
"Resilient; no matter if we're down ten points with four minutes to go, we always have a chance. So, I think we kind of banded together, started executing on both ends of the floor, and got the necessary plays that we needed,” said Holiday.
The Celtics guard does think that despite the quick start and first win, there’s plenty of room to grow.
"I think it's only been a few weeks," stated Holiday postgame to reporters. "Obviously, KP had a great game being back here. But again, I think one of the things I'll probably focus on is when we get those leads, being able to hold those leads. We know in this league, it's very, very hard to hold a lead, no matter if it's 20 points, but I think that's gonna be a step in our execution. When we're up on guys, being able to control the game."
