Josh Winckowski again has proven his worth for the Boston Red Sox prior to his outing on Sunday.
The Sox number 13 rated prospect worked six innings for Worcester on Sunday afternoon. During his outing, Winckowski struck out six, but he did allow five runs on six hits and exited the game with the club trailing 6-1 with the offense struggling to find itself.
Winckowski was tagged with the loss, his first of the year.
Scranton Wilkes-Barre would eventually knock of the WooSox, 6-2.
Jarren Duran had a home run, his fourth of the year. It was a lead off solo shot to right center.
Rob Refsnyder also hit a home run, it was a solo shot, his third of the year.
Duran and Refsnyder combined for a two-for-eight, two home run, two RBI game.
In his last outing Winckowski struck out nine, which was a season high for the 23-year-old.
Winckowski now has 34 strikeouts in 31.2 innings of work for Worcester. He owns a 3.13 with a 1-1 record.
Winckowski could be headed to Boston later this week to help fill the big league 27 man roster needs as they will be playing a double header against the Baltimore Orioles on May 28.
It’s also important to note that if he does receive a promotion to the bigs, that he likely won’t stay long before being shipped back down to Worcester.
Winckowski does deserve the promotion to the the bigs and even if it is a temporary one day start then that at least gives him a small sample size of what he could potentially have full time in the future.
