Josh Winckowski has once again delivered at a top-tier pace for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old righty worked six innings for the WooSox striking out nine and did not allow a run on the two hits given up. 48 of his 79 pitches were for strikes (60.7%). His ERA drops to 2.10 over 25.2 innings this season. He has struck out 28 batters while walking six.
The nine strike out for Winckowski was the most from him in an individual game this season. Prior this Tuesday night’s outing, Winckowski struck out eight on May 5 against Toledo.
Winckowski was part of the blockbuster trade in which Boston shipped Andrew Benintendi to the Kansas City Royals in return the Red Sox received Franchy Cordero and Winckowski from the Mets, who was also dealt from the Blue Jays to the Mets a month earlier before being traded to Boston.
Winckowski also was featured in Beyond the Monster’s article where Andrew Parker took a deep-dive into the trade and the possible future for the pitching prospect.
Prior to being shipped to Boston, Winckowski never made it past High-A with the Blue Jays farm system. He appeared in two games with Triple-A Worcester in 2021 and so far this season he has appeared in six games with Worcester.
He has proven to be a reliable get for the Red Sox since being traded for, and, he could receive a call-up to the bigs before the season comes to a close.
