Johnny Damon is a veteran of 18 major league seasons. He’s a two-time World Series champion, winning with the Red Sox in 2004 and the Yankees in 2009.
At 59-years-old, he back playing baseball again. Damon, has gone bananas.
The former centerfielder played with the Savannah Bananas this past week. The Bananas were in Daytona Beach and Damon made a surprise appearance with them.
While he looked the part of a big leaguer, he missed badly on the first pitch thrown to him.
Damon however had fun in the game, he did a little dance with the umpire before that at-bat. He entertained fans the only way the Bananas know how.
He eventually did make soft contact on the next pitch, grounding out to the (left-handed?) third baseman.
Damon isn’t the only former Red Sox star to play for the Bananas. Jonny Gomes, Jonathan Papelbon and Bill “Spaceman” Lee have all suited up in the yellow and blue.
This coming summer, the Bananas will bring their “World Famous Baseball Circus” to Hadlock Field on August 18th, 2023. The home of the Portland Sea Dogs will welcome one of baseball’s hottest attractions.
“Taking the Bananas to Portland has been something we’ve heard constantly from our fans over the years,” said owner Jesse Cole. “We are fired up to bring an unforgettable show to them this spring.”
