John Schreiber 'felt good' after his first rehab outing with WooSox
Red Sox reliever John Schreiber began his rehab assignment in Worcester on Friday night. Schreiber has been out since May 15th with an injury and is working his way back to Boston.
The 29-year-old threw 16 pitches and recorded two outs in his appearance. He also walked a batter before getting taken out due to pitch limit restrictions.
I caught up with Schreiber postgame to see how he felt after not pitching in a live game in about two months.
“Felt good tonight, right where I want to be on my first rehab assignment.” Schreiber told Beyond the Monster. “Pitch shapes were good, command could be a little better with certain pitches and counts tonight but felt good with the results. After a few more outings, mechanically, I will feel 100% where I need to be before coming off the IL and I’m excited to get back. Really glad to be out there competing again.”
WooSox manager Chad Tracy noted he “teased him for taking ten pitches to get one guy out” but was very pleased with how he pitched and felt afterward.
Schreiber will have the day off on Saturday and if all goes well with recovery, should see another inning on Sunday in Worcester.
