Joe Jacques to make first career start for the Red Sox
Red Sox left-handed reliever Joe Jacques will make his first career start on Tuesday night against the Athletics from the Oakland Coliseum.
The southpaw will serve as an opener with the possibility of fellow lefty Chris Murphy serving in a bulk innings eater role.
Jacques last worked on Sunday afternoon against the Cubs. He tossed a scoreless seventh inning in the Sox 11-5 win in the series finale.
The New Jersey native was called up prior to the Sox series in the Bronx in June. Jacques told Beyond the Monster that he had circled the Yankees series on his calendar as to when he wanted to see his first big league promotion.
The 28-year-old has pitched well out of Alex Coraโs bullpen since his promotion from Triple-A Worcester in early June.
Jacques hasnโt allowed a baserunner in his last four road outings. In addition, the lefty has only walked one batter in the last 49 heโs faced. Heโs also tossed seven scoreless innings over his last 10 appearances.
This season, Jacques is 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA in 10 games with Boston.
