Joe Jacques on Red Sox hiring Craig Breslow & Andrew Bailey; 'It's an exciting time'
On Tuesday night, the Red Sox made their announcement of Andrew Bailey as their major league pitching coach. This comes after the ties to new chief baseball officer Craig Breslow fueled speculation of Bailey returning back to a Red Sox uniform for the first time since 2013.
Both hires seem to be sitting pretty well with members of the Red Sox.
“I think it’s awesome,” Jacques said on the “To the Show We Go” podcast regarding Breslow. “Maybe he will feel a little bit more of a connection to me. He seems like a great hire and it comes across that he knows what he is talking about. He is also a Northeast guy which doesn’t hurt.”
While he is excited to have a fellow left-hander be in charge of the Red Sox, he is just as excited after having a close friend and offseason workout partner who played under new pitching coach Andrew Bailey.
“He is also another Northeast guy,” Jacques said on Bailey. “He played at Wagner who I played in college. I workout with Anthony DeSclafani every day in the offseason and he had Bailey as his pitching coach with the Giants. He spoke very highly of him. I feel like him saying that and him being a northeast guy has me excited.”
The 28-year-old is coming off his first season with the Red Sox after making his MLB debut the same season where he was selected in the Minor League Rule 5 Draft. He is currently one of two left-handed relievers on the 40-man roster along with Brennan Bernadino.
