Jeter Downs hits his first career home run off Gerrit Cole
There wasn’t much to celebrate this weekend for the Red Sox. They lost another series to an American League foe losing two of three to the Yankees. In addition, the Sox lost Chris Sale after a line drive hit him in his pitching hand breaking his left pinkie.
There was one bright spot on Sunday when Jeter Downs hit his first career home run. The two-run homer came off Yankees ace Gerrit Cole in the top of the third inning.
Downs home run will be a moment he will never forget especially since it came at Yankee Stadium. It’s well known that Downs was named after former Yankees Hall-of-Fame shortstop Derek Jeter.
The two-run dinger would land in the left field seats and traveled 363 feet. Downs has now played in nine big league games and is hitting .200 with one home run, four RBIs and has struck out 12 times in 25 at-bats.
