Jeter Downs expected to make his Red Sox debut on Wednesday
Red Sox prospect Jeter Downs is expected to make his Major League debut on Wednesday, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Downs was promoted from Triple-A Worcester on Monday after reducing their roster by one pitcher per MLB rules.
Boston selected Downs in part due to Kiké Hernandez and Christian Arroyo still on the injured list. Downs has watched the Red Sox from the bench for the first two games of the Tigers series.
The 23-year-old will fill in for either Xander Bogaerts or Rafael Devers, who are scheduled for a day off before the team day off on Thursday.
Cotillo did add after the game that manager Alex Cora said Bogaerts might have talked his way back into the lineup.
Boston designated right-handed reliever James Norwood who they acquired from the Phillies on Saturday to make room for Downs.
The Red Sox prospect is hitting .180/.297/.397 with 11 homers and 11 steals in 53 games this year for the WooSox, playing at both second and short.
